Chi Manjiao

Prof. Manjiao Chi

       Manjiao Chi is currently Professor and Founding Director, Center for International Economic Law and Policy (CIELP), Law School, University of International Business and Economics (UIBE), China. His recent research focuses on international trade and investment law and policy, dispute settlement, global development and cooperation law. Author of numerous academic books and journals articles in English and Chinese.

Among his many academic affiliations, he is Member, ILA Committee of Rule of Law and International Investment Law; Steering Committee Member, UNCITRAL Academic Forum on ISDS Reform; Consultant, United Nations ESCAP and ITC; Executive Council Member, Chinese Society of International Law; Member, American Society of International Law. He holds or held visiting professorship in leading law schools in North America, Europe and Asia, frequently speaks at major international law conferences, and sits on the editorial board of academic journals. He is also a founding editor of the Asian Yearbook of International Economic Law.

Prior to joining UIBE, he was Professor, Law School of Xiamen University; Senior Fellow, Centre for Global Cooperation Research (Germany); and Expert Counsel-in-Residence, Department of Treaty and Law, Ministry of Commerce of China (on secondment). He was Edwards Fellow of Columbia Law School, and visiting fellow of the Max-Planck Institute of International Law, German Institute of Development and UNIDROIT.

He has rich experiences in practicing law. He has dealt with a number of WTO and investment arbitration disputes, and participated in treaty negotiations, advises various international organizations, governments and companies on international law issues, and serves as arbitrator and expert witness in legal disputes and in Chinese and foreign courts. He holds BA, LLM, and Ph.D. in law degrees.
