Experience

Matthew Kennedy has taught at UIBE Law since 2010.  He teaches International Trade Law and Regulation, and Law and Technology.

Prof. Kennedy worked for the WTO Secretariat in Geneva, Switzerland for 12 years where he was a senior lawyer responsible for dispute settlement, and Secretary of the Council for TRIPS.  Previously, he was a lawyer in private practice in Sydney, Australia for six years.

Prof. Kennedy is the author of WTO Dispute Settlement and the TRIPS Agreement: Applying intellectual property standards in a trade law framework (Cambridge University Press, 2016).  He has widely published on international trade and intellectual property topics in the Journal of World Trade, Journal of International Economic Law, World Trade Review, IIC - International Review of Intellectual Property and Competition Law, Queen Mary Journal of Intellectual Property, International and Comparative Law Quarterly and elsewhere.

 

Education

Prof. Kennedy received his Ph.D. in Law summa cum laude from the University of Berne, Switzerland.  He obtained a LL.M. in International and Comparative Law with great distinction from the Free University of Brussels, Belgium, and a Bachelor of Laws with first class honours and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney, Australia.
